Running Bear Reflection
Before the annual grizzly bear salmon orgy, there's grazing season. Eating sedge grasses and harvesting clams, punctuated by the mating of eligible singles. Long, long days and short twilight evenings.
June 3 was a bright, hot, still day. This young bear broke the torpor when ran through our camp to avoid a mature male that was strolling behind him. And for a minute, our mosquito-filled pond was a welcome landscape feature, a mirror unifying sky, bear and the distant mountains in the reflection.
