Bear Brothers
Three year old bear brothers - surviving twins - playing in the tidal marsh grass of the Knight Inlet in British Columbia. Our little band had a 90 minute encounter with these bears, their mother and the twins from another mother that she adopted when their mother abandoned them...Grizzly bear society can be brutal. Grown males occasionally kill cubs in order to send the mothers into estrus so that they can mate with the mothers and sire their own cubs. Fierce mothers defend their cubs in claw-flashing, teeth biting skirmishes that can have dire consequences. Cubs hid from any male not their father - we her two adopted yearing cubs hiding 20 feet up in a spindly treetop.
