Peak Breach
Graceful arc of the peak of a humpback's breach. (Why do humpbacks breach? Because they can. )
We witnessed a cannonade of whale leaping that lasted most of an hour and progressed over almost three miles. There's nothing like it in nature - 40 tons of mammal rising up like a missile launch, nose cone poised for atmospheric flight. Sometimes they wobble a bit and fall over. So when they go full aerial, you know you're seeing a successful flight.
Thank you @fastrafwhale for a great day of whale encounters.
