Each humpback's tail is identifiable from its unique white markings. In my opinion, the musculature and shape of their tails is also distinctive and worth noting. Long-tailed humpbacks dive with a distinctive grace that is a form of art in motion. We spent more than an hour in the company of a pair of whales and had a chance to explore their diving and physical forms. The intensely muscled, graceful form of this one is a wonderfully complex shape that hints at how it interacts with the resistance from the water.
