About Steve

Fifteen years ago I was a staff photographer for USA Today covering news, sports and entertainment. Since then, my photography interests have shifted towards discovering, appreciating and sharing natural beauty. Creating images of the natural world helps shape my spiritual understanding of life, along with broadening my skills as a naturalist. The rhythms of outdoor life are primal and fundamental. I find them meditative, inspirational and rejuvenating. Hopefully, my work reflects that to you the viewer.
As an artist, I strongly believe that art should be emotionally and intellectually accessible to all, and not require an advanced degree to appreciate or interpret. I love creating images that need no advance preparation to appreciate (though they are often enhanced by the story behind them.) I created this site as an easy way to share images, and encourage bring one or more into a home or office. I encourage calling to discuss the work, the preparation of prints or canvases, and the availability of images not on this website.
I am planning to open a small gallery of my work in the summer of 2007 at 5834 Vallejo Street (at Powell) in Emeryville, California. Other prints of my work may now be seen there by appointment, when I'm there pursuing my day job as a management consultant.
Oh, I primarily uses digital production methods, and work only in color. I use digital cameras, 35 mm film cameras, medium format film cameras, and anything else that I can figure out. I sell archival Lightjet prints from a local master printer, and professionally printed archival canvases that are gallery-wrapped on a frame.
I live and work in Emeryville, California with my wife Ann and our son. And our dog Edwina.
